NCECA 2006 Panel: Panelist Bios

Moderator:
Lynette Jennings
Jennings is the Founding Director of "Eagleheart Center for Art and Inquiry", which is the program development center for the national Lynette Jennings Foundation: Art for Life. Jennings' 35-year career as a writer and consultant in architecture, art and design, in the media and to the product development industry, has been recognized for the elevation of the standards and awareness of the arts within the public domain. Jennings' two books have sold over 120,000 copies. Her television series featuring architects, designers and artists was broadcast daily for 18 years in 37 countries. Jennings' mission: to close the gap between art, artists and society.

 

Panelists:

Jim Romberg
Romberg is currently the Artistic Director of the Eagleheart Center for Art and Inquiry and a professional ceramic artist. Recently retired as Professor Emeritus from Southern Oregon University, Romberg has resumed programs initiated while Director of Ceramics at Sun Valley Center for the Arts to bring together creators from diverse fields in symposium and workshop formats to explore significant issues in art and its relationship to society. Most recent has been the International Raku Summit held at Eagleheart in June, 2005. He directed the symposium/workshop and curated the exhibition "Raku: Origins, Impact and Contemporary Expression". Romberg continues workshops and exhibitions internationally.

 

Brian Gillis
Gillis most recently served as Assistant Professor of Art at San Diego Mesa College where he taught all levels of ceramics, sculpture, and three-dimensional design. Gillis has taught in a variety of capacities at institutions ranging from small art centers and primary/secondary schools, to foreign and domestic colleges/universities. Gillis sees teaching as an opportunity to be continually engaged in an unwrapped environment where investigation and introspection are sought after, supported and valued. As a maker, his intentions are to elicit a dialogue about the nature of the way we are taught to see and effectively witness the world around us.

 

Tony Hepburn
Hepburn is currently the Head of Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI, where he has been since 1992. He has taught at the Art Institute of Chicago, the New York State College of Ceramics and Alfred University. Hepburn's approach to his work: "My work is a reflection of what is happening in my life."
