And Speaking of the High Country Desert...

Welcome to Eagleheart!
Eagleheart was built for you. It's the "real thing." It's rustic, casual and elegant. To learn more about the actual connective style architecture..

The main part of the ranch house is open to you 24/7. Although we spend most of our time on the on the u-shaped veranda overlooking the canyons, the interior is a comfortable, curl up and relax style of atmosphere. Since we only accommodate 7-10 people at a time there's plenty of room for privacy as well as fireside chats. We have two fireplaces, one in the livingroom and one on the veranda as well as a working pot bellied stove. A pool table and extensive art and design library are also available to you. The 400 acres of virgin high country forest, fields and canyons gives you lots of room to roam. There's inspiration everywhere.

Sleeping accommodations
Currently there are three rustic true log cabins, and one upstairs "cottage". Double occupancy is the standard. If you prefer single occupancy, there will be an adjustment made to your fees. The cabins are decorated in antiques, quilts, down comforters and suede. The cabins do not have private baths. They are accommodated with a central full facility "Bath House" which includes a luxury ledge style shower and antiques. The "Upstairs Cottage" is actually a second master suite above the main house, which is furnished in "shabby chic" style, with a queen sized bed, a trundled day bed, and includes a full private bath. The "cottage" is also available as double occupancy. Sheets are changed every three days. Fresh towels are provided daily. We very much appreciate your cooperation in water conservation.

We love good food!
At Eagleheart we eat well. Everything we serve is prepared fresh daily. We use as many organic products as we can find, and never compromise taste. And we do enjoy a good glass of wine with dinner as well as diet-busting desserts. We serve full breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as provide snacks. Our cuisine is designed to the standard of 4-stars.

If you have any health or dietary issues, please let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Eagleheart is a non-smoking facility
However, we can arrange for an outdoor location and canister. As you can appreciate fire danger is a real concern in high country desert.

And speaking of the high country desert, a note to all city-slickers and flat-landers!
If you have never experienced high desert living or high country wildlife, you're in for a wonderful experience. This is wild and beautiful country. And you may never want to leave! What we came to learn after moving here is that we are the foreigners. The plant and animal life is designed for survival, exquisitely beautiful, but not always friendly. Keep your cameras at the ready, take care not to invade and you will be treated with delights you will never forget.

It is dry, very dry
You will most likely not perspire which is of course your natural cooling system. The effect is rapid dehydration. By the time you feel thirsty, you are well on your way to trouble. We can't emphasize enough how important it is to drink plenty of fluids, small amounts frequently. We supply bottled water and our well water is tested regularly and pure, no additives.

Sun-screen, a must
There is less atmosphere here to block the sun's UV rays, so sun-screen is a must, even on low-light days.

The elevation here is 6,750 feet
This means you might not sleep well the first night. We don't know why this happens. You might feel lethargic, a little headache, or breathless for the first 24 hours while your body adjusts. The symptoms will go away as your body makes more red blood cells to make up for the lack of oxygen. However, if you should continue to feel "off", please let us know. We can help. But here is what you can do to feel better:

  • drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses per day
  • avoid dehydrators for the first 2 days: alcohol, caffeine, and excessive sugar
  • get plenty of Vitamin C
  • don't over exert

Wildlife
Our 400 acre ranch is nearly surrounded by Bureau of Land Management wild lands. If you are quiet and still, you may see some amazing things, like the herd of 25 deer who frequent the draw in front of the house, or depending on the season, our home herd of 40+ elk in the high fields. You'll hear coyote howling, or spot eagles and red-tail hawks hanging on an updraft above the canyon rim. These canyon lands provide an exceptional experience. No one has lived here for three hundred years. Only the Ute Indians hunted here.
